Walk it off. No, literally.
Spiritual journeys begin with taking the first step on a long, scary road.
Have you ever felt connected to fictional characters so deeply that you cannot imagine living another day in your life? What I would have done to live like the boy in My Side of the Mountain. I would have my tree where I live, with my peregrine falcon to help me hunt for food. I would be alone most of the time, but that’s okay. There would be so much to learn about all around me, and my life-long goal would be becoming the ultimate mountain man. That would be making the best of my current circumstances.
“The greater part of our happiness and misery depends on our disposition, not the circumstances.”
- Michael Scott
I don’t know who said it, I’ve been trying to find the absolutely correct source my entire life, but I do know where I heard it. I was riding in the car with my father, now let me tell you about a spiritual journey. Turns out, as usual, he was right. I love you Dad.
Our disposition, now what does that mean exactly? Google says “a person’s inherent qualities of mind and character.” What would you say are your inherent (inherent means existing in something as a permanent or essential attribute, think inherited) qualities?
For a long time I thought I knew who I was. I was a good kid, who lost his way due to the unfairness of the world. My life as an alcoholic was determined, and I was going to die much younger, poorer, and sicker than I ever imagined.
Ask me who I am today.
